Get files from Dropbox and download them to your computer. 🙂
Add intro to the very beginning of the show. Make sure audio levels are somewhat similar in their output. Add any aditional files to the beginning or end of the file.
Also make sure to add markers to the file indicating the beginning and ending of each new audio file you insert into the main (long) interview file, like so…
Add the hard limiter and the Multiband Compressor to the entire file
Hard Limiter

http://prntscr.com/iglktn
Multiband Compressor
http://prntscr.com/igll2h
http://prntscr.com/igll7v
If the show was a phone interview there will be a background “hiss” *only* when the guest speaks. Here’s how to get rid of that noise
AFTER you have applied the Hard Limiter and Multiband Compressor, then run the process below.
Show Spectrum Frequency Display
http://prntscr.com/j2qjam
It should look like this:
http://prntscr.com/j2qjgb
Then zoom into an area where there is a the horizontal line that’s making the hiss noise:
http://prntscr.com/j2qjqz
It should look like this:
http://prntscr.com/j2qjzz
Then highlight a very thin area just above and below the line like so…
http://prntscr.com/j2qk59
Then Run the Noise Reduction Process
http://prntscr.com/j2qiuz
It should look like this
http://prntscr.com/j2qkgi
Then Run the capture noise point
http://prntscr.com/j2qkmg
It should look like this
http://prntscr.com/j2qkua
The result should look like this
http://prntscr.com/j2ql8g
Then I remove some of the “fuzz” when she talks by selecting a square or rectangle areas just below the line I just got rid of and above the area where his or her voice is peaking like so…
http://prntscr.com/j2qlx0
Then run the same noise reduction process
http://prntscr.com/j2qm7q
It should look like this
http://prntscr.com/j2qmhb
and/or this
http://prntscr.com/j2qnpz
Add legal disclaimer at the end
Save file with these settings
http://prntscr.com/igln9o
http://prntscr.com/iglngc
The output should look something like this
Clone an already existing blog post in WordPress. We have 2 kinds of shows, an interview (where we invite a guest on) and a “Free For All Friday” (FFAF) show with either me alone or me and Kate talking. Clone a show similar to the new one that’s being created. You must be logged into WordPress to do this.
Then click “Add New” like so (into a new tab)…
Then copy and paste the title and the text area fields into the corresponding fields in the new tab that you just opened while making sure you’re in the “Text” editor and not in the visual editor like so…
In the original tab (the one you opened to edit the post) click on pretty links on the left menu bar and add a new link like so…
Then copy the headline for the new show that I send to you like this…
Paste the new headline into the new post for the new podcast page like this…
It should look like this…
Make sure to update the show number and then click “Save Draft” on the right (don’t publish just yet).
Then click edit for the Permalink URL like so…
Copy the end of that URL that looks like this
and add the http://www.extremehealthradio.com/
to the beginning of it so it looks like this:
Then take this entire link and paste it into the Pretty Link tab (the one you opened before) like so…
Once that gets created feel free to close that tab. 🙂
Next make sure to add any relavent tags. Make sure they’re initial capped. So use Pregnancy instead of pregnancy.
If we’re interviewing a guest named Bob Jones (for example) make sure to add Bob Jones as one of the tags with no Dr. in front of it, just the first and last name.
The next step is to pick a category.
Uncheck the “Uncategorized” check box like so…
Since this was a “Free For All Friday” show we’ll put it into that category.
All podcasts (whether a Free For All Friday or standard interview) go into the “Podcasts” category.
Next step is to add the featured image. I create 2 featured images, one for the blog post and one for the Youtube version of the show. The final size of each image is 640×360. The final byte count should be less than 75kb for the blog post and around 200kb (there’s really no upper limit for the Youtube version). I typically save them in a .jpg format to reduce the size.
For today’s podcast it was mostly about pregnancy so go to Goolge Images and type “pregnant woman” and search for good images.
I like it when there’s open space off to one side or another so I can add text to it like this…
Once I have the image I’ll add some text over the top of it and add a 1 or 2 pixel black “stroke” to it in Photoshop like so (most of the time I’ll do white text with a black stroke in Impact font)…
http://prntscr.com/igo2wr
and
http://prntscr.com/igo38v
The final output should look something like this…
Once I have the image I’ll upload the smaller sized blog version as the featured image like so…
http://prntscr.com/igo54j
and
http://prntscr.com/igo5gi
While that’s happening I then open up Windows Movie Maker (you can use any program you’d like) and then create a youtube video out of the mp3 audio file and the 2nd image I just created for Youtube.
Here’s what it looks like on my computer…
http://prntscr.com/igo60e
http://prntscr.com/igo65h
http://prntscr.com/igo69v
http://prntscr.com/igo6dt
http://prntscr.com/igo6i7
http://prntscr.com/igo6kw
http://prntscr.com/igo6tt
Then I hit save and after a half hour or so, it’ll create the video I can then upload to Youtube.
While that’s being created I then create the ID3 tags for the show that get applied to the .mp3 file so I can then upload it to Libsyn.
I open the mp3 file up inside a free program called Tag Scanner (https://www.xdlab.ru/en/).
http://prntscr.com/igoaxo
http://prntscr.com/igob1n
Then I’ll highlight any of our older shows and copy all the fields into the new show except for the show title and show number.
Then I’ll hit save. Then I’ll go back and add in the new show title and hit save again. The result should look something like this…
Artist:
Justin Stellman: Health Radio Show Host, Raw Food & Paleo BloggerJustin Stellman: Health Radio Show Host, Raw Food & Paleo Blogger
Album Artist:

Original Artist:
Justin Stellman: Health Radio Show Host, Raw Food & Paleo BloggerJustin Stellman: Health Radio Show Host, Raw Food & Paleo Blogger
Then once I hit save I upload the mp3 file to Libsyn.com like so…
http://prntscr.com/igovii
http://prntscr.com/igovpl
Before you upload make sure the ID3 tags are in fact associated with the mp3 file like so:
Once it’s uploaded, just hit “Publish”
Once it’s done publishing the resulting URL should look like this
Then take that URL and paste it here:
And hit “Verify URL”
And then you should see this message:
Remove all of the text below the bottom of the video here…
ending above the phrase “One Last Thing”
Simply backspace and delete it as we need to write new copy each time we create a show. I’ll write the copy for each show, if you could just delete the text but leave the video code at the top that would be great like so…
So in the code, the ending result should look like this…
Add the the Sponsors, links (show notes) and featured products to the episode notes like so…
Adding Links
Open this link up in a new tab: http://www.extremehealthradio.com/shop
If there are any mentions of a product, simply grab the link from our store and create a link that way. If there are any items you’re not sure about just leave them blank and I will add them later and then next time you’ll know how to do that yourself.
Multitrack?
No feel free to work in multitrack. The only thing is to make sure to add the markers so I can see where an intro ends and the show starts. I usually just a cue marker before and after a commercial for example that might be right in the middle of the show. You don’t have to name the marker it’s just so I can know identify elements in the final recordings.
Mono or Stereo?
I prefer Mono when I save it. I’ll do all my editing in Stereo and then when I save it to Mono I think there are screenshots of that, the file size gets really small.
Libsyn & Youtube
I’ll send you an email with the login details for libsyn. All of our mp3 files go there. 🙂
For Youtube perhaps you could send me a txt file with the Title, Description and the tags (comma seperated). For the description box can you just leave it blank (unless you can/want to write a desription but I doubt you listen to the content of these shows right?) and add the text below?
Also with Libsyn, before you upload the edited mp3 file, would you be able to add the correct ID3 tags? I believe I have that in the original instructions but can’t remember.
Sponsor Links
Yes ideally every sponsor will go to it’s corresponding page in our store. For example…we sell these orange glasses which people can buy here: http://www.extremehealthradio.com/blublox but we have a product page for them in our store here: http://shop.extremehealthradio.com/product/blublox-blue-blocking-sunglasses/ so (when possible) I like to send all people to our store (so they can look around and see other products). I will make a txt document in your Dropbox folder (i just put one in the dropbox for you) with the links. 🙂
Things I Noticed
First you did really great on the very first episode!! Thank you! Here are just a few things we could improve on. There are just so many little details that it was probably my fault for not pointing them out to you in the training page…
Naming of the mp3 file
This is how I’ve been naming them: ep-562-ffaf-2-15-2018.mp3 when I upload to youtube. If you could follow that same format, that would be awesome! 🙂
File sound in Adobe
I noticed yours: http://prntscr.com/j0up0q and I’m looking at one of mine: http://prntscr.com/j0upsh. I’m wondering if it’s because yours was in stereo and multitrack, is that why it looks different?
Featured Image on WordPress Post
Usually I just use the same image that I used for the Youtube version and make that the featured image for the post that goes with the show. I usually make 2 versions of that featured image, a larger one for the Youtube version and a much smaller one (no more than 75kb) for the featured image. This way our site doesn’t get slow because of large image sizes.
Categories
With Luke Storey’s show it was a little different since he did the show with me in person and on video. Typically all shows will be in the “Podcast” category (like you did, thanks for putting it there!) and then any other categories that might pertain like “Digestion” “Cleansing” etc. But for these “in person” shows, I’ll also add it to the “In Studio” category and the “Videos” category.
Tags
I typically use the tags for their full first and last name. So in this case I’d use the tag Luke Storey (with the “L” and the “S” capitalized). If you start typing his name, it should come up if he’s already been on the show before (which he was).
