vitamins-pills-supplementsIn today’s economy we are all finding it somewhat challenging when there are many supplements you want to buy but there’s only so much money with which to buy them.

I totally get it.

A while back I wrote an entire article about all the supplements we are taking and we’re pretty much still taking them and really enjoyed it. But then I realized if I were to follow the “suggested usage” on the back of the pill bottle, I’d be taking hundreds of pills per day.

I just can’t justify that.

Firstly I don’t think taking supplments is natural. When you swallow a pill, you’re not mixing the herb or formula with your saliva so your body has no way of knowing what the heck is coming down the shoot!

Digestion start with our mouth. Digestion even starts when we begin thinking about food. Think about biting into a lemon right now.

I bet you just started salivating didn’t you?

This is your body’s way of creating digestive enzymes and for signaling to your stomach, gall bladder and liver what’s going to happen next. So swallowing a pill in water bypasses all that.

But I’m willing to take that risk. I don’t think it’s THAT big of a deal.

The other thing about supplements is that many people take them every single day and sometimes 3 times per day without taking the time to give their body a rest. Before I go any further if you’re swallowing that many pills, make sure that you’re drinking a lot more water than you normally do to help your kidneys and body deal with having to process that much material.

The rest cycle is a big deal. I always think about how we might have lived thousands of years ago. We have to take that into consideration. You might have stumbled across an herb for a little while and consumed it for a few weeks even and then perhaps a few weeks or months would go by until you found it again.

Heck, even in the Bible it says that God rested on the 7th day. I don’t even know what that means but the principle is there. We need to take a rest and a break from these sorts of things with our diet and nutritonal supplements.

Here’s What I Did…

In order to spread the cost of the supplements I took about half the recommended dose (I did this because I take LOTS of supplments right now whereas if I only took 1 or 2 and wasn’t concerned about stretching the cost I’d take the full amount) and I broke up the days I consume the supplements.

I realize there are going to be big supplements advocates saying that not only do you need to not take half the recommended dosage but you actually need to take double or triple the amount it says on the bottle. If I had cancer or some health crisis to deal with, I’d take that approach. But if I’m just taking something for maitinence, I’ve been following this idea for a while.

Then I only take the pills on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Friday. I take Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday off from all pills. On my off days I’ll take digestive supplements like Digestive Bitters (Tell Michael King we sent you to get free product on your 1st order!), my enzymes and HCL with my heavy meal which is usually dinner.

Here’s What Else I Do…

I also do urine therapy as much as I can. When you urinate you pee out lots of the minerals and vitamins from the pills you’re taking. You get much more bang for your buck when you ingest your own urine.

So that’s how I make my supplements work for me and last longer in the process. It gives my body a break, it’s more cost effective and it allows my body to recieve more of the good stuff with each 00 capsule I take…
