I’m Embarrassed How Much Clutter Is In My House & Here’s Why I’m Simplifying My Life

Feel Good Project day 40

NOTHING feels better than simplifying.

Nothing.

Living in a world that daily forces things on me whether I like it or not, the ONE thing I can control is what I choose to have around me in my surroundings.

As well as what I do NOT want around me and what needs to go.

Lately I feel very affected by energies around me more than ever before. It most certainly has to do with the ongoing construction project next door (which by the way has now been promised to be completed three different times, all of which dates have come and gone! AH construction!) and feeling like I cannot control much going on outside my windows.

Don’t even THINK about the freeway, talk about the most lack of control feeling ever. I thank God every time I make it home safely now when I get out of my car-people are NUTS out there!!!

So I might not be able to control my outside circumstances BUT I CAN have a say in what I keep around me and how it makes me feel.

Justin and I have actually been ‘Spring’ cleaning since last January-continually shedding old, unused or worn out items. It is one slow going project but man does it feel GREAT.

Sometimes it may be a week in between thrift store donation runs, but the good news is that we continue to rid our tiny home of material things in hopes of simplifying, and there seems to always seem to be a new item (or two or three!) that serve no purpose so off into the giveaway pile they go.

Seriously nothing feels better to me than this. I seem lighter and accomplished.

I am learning a lot about where I have spent my money in the past and what I used to value. That alone is a very powerful teacher.

Also I am learning again and again to unravel myself from attachments for sentimental reasons. I actually went through a giant box of old photos recently and (GASP!) threw so many away that I was left with only a measly pile that actually mean something to me. The others were fillers-old memories of people that I no longer see or was never close to in the first place.

It was a very enlightening process to work through why I held on to all of those stagnant memories throughout the years, afraid that if I let some of them go, it might seem as if my life were not as full as it once was, or at least in how I remember it being from my limited perspective.

I still have work to do. I am embarrassed. I have to admit but I have the whole bottom left side of my closet filled with paperwork that needs shredding or filing. YEARS of old tax returns just hanging out because I have been either too lazy or too broke at the time to buy a filing cabinet. 🙂

I believe it was a video I watched by a former guest named Drew Canole where he was talking about if you want to get a handle on your life-to start in your closet.

That stuck with me. On so many levels I am de-cluttering my brains out, but the hidden stuff still bogs me down. That is a Christmas time project that I am going to knock out before the New Year. Setting that intention and making that commitment here on paper FEELS GOOD.

CLEAN and organized feels good.

I feel like life is actually a bit better when I don’t have piles of papers lurking in the background. Even if others can’t see it-knowing it’s there bothers me and I intend to make that change once and for all!

FEEL GOOD MOMENT OF THE DAY: Catching up with friends on the phone tonight after what seems like months of not connecting. Also-the girl at the health food store loved my sweater which made me feel great! Also, it reminded me that I am SO loving this cloudy weather we are having today HOORAY!
