What The Liver Does:

The liver has been called by some health practitioners THE most important organ in the body. They all seem pretty important to me. It’s main job is to filter blood coming from the digestive tract before it is passed to different areas of the body. You can’t have toxic blood going to certain organs now can you? It also detoxifies drugs, chemicals, poisons, toxins and other unwanted pathogens. It also helps to create bile in the intestines which helps to break down our food. It communicates with the hydrochloric acid in our stomach to know how much bile to create and so forth.

Needless to say, it is so important that the liver is the only organ in the body that will regenerate itself.

Why It Is Important To Keep It Healthy:

Since the liver is used in just about every function of the human body, you need it to be healthy and working properly. If you don’t have a healthy liver these diseases can be a part of your future: Hepatitis, Cirrhosis, Liver cancer, Liver failure, Ascites, Gallstones, Hemochromatosis, Primary sclerosing cholangitis, Primary biliary cirrhosis. Doesn’t that sound fun?

Foods To Avoid:

You’ll want to avoid alcohol and chemicals of all kinds. Most foods have chemicals in them as do household cleaning products. Think about all the areas in your life where you’re exposed to chemicals and figure out ways to avoid them or replace them with natural substances.

Also read labels because most packaged and processed foods contain chemicals, dyes and sometimes genetically modified organisms. These all must be processed by your liver.

Exercises:

Yoga and deep torso twists can help stimulate the liver because of the twisting action. This causes the organs to contract, expand and massage themselves. Rebounding helps strengthen every cell in the body, including the liver.
