How To Become An Expert Through Saturation

how-to-become-an-expert-600x300

It has been said that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. Malcolm Gladwell author of Outliers: The Story of Success says it takes roughly 10,000 hours of practice in any particular field to become an expert at something.

How long is 10,000 hours you ask?

That’s a good question. If you spend an hour per day on something it will take roughly 27 years to beceom an expert. If you spend 3 hours a day it will take you roughly 10 years.

Assuming you’re going to be alive and in good health in 10 years why not become an expert at something while you’re at it. No need to rush right?

Chances are you desire to be an expert in a particular subject. We all have passions and want to spend more time doing or learning about something in particular.

If you work a full time job with a family, it might be hard to spend 3 hours a day learning something new. But remember learning doesn’t come by only reading. You can learn by listening to interviews, podcasts, webinars, going to lectures and seminars, living out your desired craft, watching movies.

Remember there are many ways to learn a particular subject. Reading isn’t your only option. Every single day we have the opportunity to learn something new.

We might have the opportunity to speak with someone new or watch a Youtube video or read an article about something. Opportunities to learn are around us all day long every single day.

The question is do you take Life up on the chance?

Most times we’re so tired from our jobs that we really have no time left over to learn something about which we’re passionate.

When I first read the book called Fit for Life in 2003 it changed my life. All of a sudden the mysterious world of health, nutrition, disease prevention and aging all made sense. I realized there’s really just one disease. I realized how enzymes work and how minerals work and how stress plays a role in human biology.

Then I was so fascinated I must have listen to Jay Kordich’s Juice Man tapes (he sells an amazing Juicer too if you’re interested!) a hundred times. I’d listen to them over and over again.

I figured out that even though I really enjoyed reading books and still do, I’m primarily an audio learner. I love listening to things. I tend to remember better also.

I started listening to radio shows and internet podcasts all about health and wellness. Any time I was driving I’d be listening to this type of positive information that radically transformed my life.

So my question to you is what kind of learner are you?

I suspect you’re an audio learner as well. Instead of listening to sports radio (I still listen myself from time to time!) or the morning show, start subscribing to podcasts that talk about the subjects you’re passionate about.

The average person commutes for an hour and a half per day in their car. You could use that time to start your university on wheels. You can even listen to youtube videos now through your phone in your car.

We truly live in an amazing world now. All information is accessible within seconds. Stop wasting your time and your life watching soul crushing tv shows and traditional radio shows.

Start filling your mind day in and day out with positive information that has the ability to transform your life. Combining good nutrition that feeds your hormones with positive life affirming information will change your life.

You’ll find that you’ll be an “expert” much faster than 10,000 hours.
