How To Avoid Having Regret

regret-main-post-picAs many of you know, I’m OBSESSED with learning and do my best to expose myself to new and challenging information every single day. I don’t really listen to anything but podcasts on my iPod.

Unless Kate and I are driving somewhere on a road trip, I’m listening to roughly 3 hours of positive information on a daily basis. A couple years ago I was listening to these two ladies talk about goal setting and living a life without regret.

I’d like to flush that out a little bit in this particular article.

The idea they were conveying was to sit down quietly and close your eyes just like you would if you were doing some tapping, visualization, meditation or praying to God.

Sit quietly with your eyes closed and imagine yourself 30 years into the future. Really get into it. Imagine your body 30 years older. Imagine what it’s like to move around or imagine what it’s like to be that age in every capacity. Think about it and really try to picture yourself 30 years older and think about what your daily life is like.

Are you sick? Do your joints ache and hurt? Do you have enough money? Are you doing the kind of work you’d like to do? Do you live in the type of place you’d desire?

How about your partner? Do you have an amazing relationship? What’s your life like on a day to day basis?

Let’s say currently you’re 35 years old. As you’re sitting there with your eyes closed you’re now 65 years old.

Now here comes the best part….

Imagine (as the 65 year old) that you’re now 35. Looking back on the last 30 years, what do you wish you could have or would have changed? What would you have done differently.

They say….

Youth is wasted on the young.

Do you wish you would have been awakened earlier in life? Do you wish you would have taken more chances or more risks in your life? Do you look back and think about all the “what ifs”?

Maybe it’s just that you wish you would have gone to bed earlier every night or that you would have read more books or that you would have taken that job you wanted or taken that trip you felt like you should have taken but were too scared. Or maybe you wish you would have done more detoxification and cleansing or jumped on the rebounder every single day and really taken care of your body.

It’s akin to “remembering the future” or “remembering forward” as some people have called it.

It’s a really great exercise to figure out where in our lives we’re slipping and not living the life we want to live. It’s a great way to visualize ourselves 30 years into the future and think about what’s important in our lives.

Don’t live with regret or a lack of awareness about what direction each decision you make is taking you. Have that awareness about your life and live each day with inspired intention.

When we live each day with that kind of intention, it’s only a matter of time until clarity becomes known and our path becomes more visible so we can then make inspired choice which will take us in the direction of our dreams.

So turn off your iPhone your iPad and take a 10 minutes tonight to sit down and do some imagining. After you’re done write down all the things you’d like to change in your life and begin to wipe out any chance of living with regret.

If you have ANY regret now at age 35 don’t let another day go by where you don’t work on getting rid of that.

The last thing you want is to be on your death bed wishing you had done all the things you wanted to do but were too afraid to try.

Live a life worth living that’s an example to all those around you of how to do it with grace and love every moment of it.

Justin, Thank you so much for inspiring me, to be more aware and focused on what I want to bring into my life! I’m going to set aside sometime tonight to dream, meditate, and create what I want In my life. Thanks for everything you do.
