As many of you know, Kate and I decided to pony up and spend the money for the Relax FAR Infrared Sauna from Phil Wilson over at Momentum 98.
We’ve known about the benefits of using a FAR Infrared sauna for many years. It’s incredibly detoxifying to the body. In fact when Kate went on a detox program a year ago one of the requirements to complete the program was to sit in a sauna using the FAR Infrared technology every day for 2 weeks straight. I think the required time to sit in one was for 30 minutes a day.
At a dollar per minute you can start to see the the costs for sitting in one of these saunas was quickly adding up.
I’ve always been a good sweater. I love sweating and have always been athletic and enjoyed being outside sweating in the noon day sun. Kate on the other hand (although athletic and grew up outside as a child like I did) was not a good sweater. I’m not sure why that is. I’ve heard different theories.
I’ve heard potassium ratios could be off in the body along with electrolytes. I’m not sure. I’ve also heard a prominant doctor mention how if the body is overloaded with chemicals or heavy metals the body usually cannot sweat easily.
Whatever the case, Kate just couldn’t get a good sweat going. Sometimes we’d do a Bikram style yoga where the yoga studio is heated up to 104 degrees and she STILL wouldn’t sweat!
Amazing isn’t it?
As many of you know she’s a hair stylist and works with chemicals in the salon and has done so for 14 years. We are working hard to get her out of that environment so she’s not exposed to so many toxins. She wants to work for Extreme Health Radio full time answering emails, writing blog posts and being on the shows together.
It has really been an amazing transformation seeing her turn her entire life around.
Both of us use the sauna every single day for about 25 to 30 minutes each. I try to last for 30 minutes and she goes for 25. We start sweating around the 10 minute mark right away!
Usually I sit in the sauna at night before bed after a long day of working at the computer and working out in the gym. I’ve noticed it seems to speed up my recovery time as well.
Usually my muscles will be sore from doing bench press type exercises at the gym with heavy weights. The soreness will last normally about 3 days but since I’ve been using the sauna the soreness seems to dissipate after about a day or so.
Perhaps it’s helping increase circulation and decrease lactic acid buildup inside the soft tissues like the muscles.
What I like about the FAR Infrared sauna is that it allows me to slow down, relax and be still for 30 minutes. Phil Wilson says he meditates in it. I can’t seem to concentrate like that when I’m in there. I don’t use the hand slits either to read a book.
There are two slits that you can unzip from the inside of the sauna which allow you to stick your hands out and read a book if you’d like. Personally I like to watch a documentary from Youtube or Netflix for the 30 minutes I’m in there each night.
I love the sauna because it helps to cleanse heavy metals from our bodies. Heavy metals have been associated with all kinds of diseases and even neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS – Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ), and Parkinson’s.
It’s also good for expanding the blood vessels and helping to thin the blood to increase circulation which is very helpful for the heart. As many of you know my body (not I) was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy when I was 15 years old. This is a thickening of the walls of the heart leading to heart murmers, irregular heart beats and sometimes even death.
Anything I can do for my heart the better!
Even though I train at the gym and workout regularly, sometimes I do find myself eating too many fruit sugars on any given day. Sweating is a great way to help sweat out some of those excess sugars we might consume.
Not many things in the world help to increase lymphatic flow.
One of the jobs of the lymph system is to store toxins that we get exposed to. The FAR Infrared sauna helps to increase the lymph flow of the body thus it aids in the effective elimination of toxic chemicals.
How great to be able to sweat like a pig without even working out! You can lose weight, decrease disease, increase circulation, relax and chelate heavy metals all by sitting in a chair for 30 minutes a day. 🙂

I also like that it’s amazing for getting rid of flu’s or colds and even more serious diseases like cancers, strokes and fibromyalgia! I can’t make any claims but is it no wonder that every alternative healing center that I know of, use FAR Infrared sauna technology to help people recover from serious illness?
The last thing I like about it is that it’s incredibly relaxing. It helps me to wind down after a long day and improves my sleep tremendously. Sometimes I’ll do a little skin brushing, a few minutes of rebounding, drink some lemon water or make a green juice and sweat at the very end of the day right before bed.
After that I’ll typically do 10 minutes of meditaiton, do a little bit of reading and then stretch for 15 minutes, take a cold shower and then sleep like a little baby all night long.
When you’re done sweating in the sauna you have a feeling euphoria. I can’t describe it. It feels like you were at the spa all day getting a massage or something.
It’s so invigorating and rejuvinating on so many levels.
