Why You Should Consume These 6 Animal Products

It’s funny because I get asked all the time about whether or not I eat animal products. If you don’t know I was 100% raw vegan from 2003 to 2010 and then after that I felt like something was missing.

I felt great on the raw vegan diet but just wasn’t sure. What if I was missing something and because I was young and healthy I couldn’t feel it? It would be a shame to eat one way for 40 years only to realize years later you created some serious nutritional deficiencies.

I realize many of you don’t eat ANY animal products. I completely understand not eating meat. That’s a personal decision we all have to make on an individual basis. Actually I believe it’s a decision we should be willing to come to grips with on a daily basis based on our cravings.

If you identify with being a vegan and one day you crave meat or some other form of an animal product what do you do? If you are attached to your preconceived ideology rather than listening to your body, you’ll continue to follow an idea rather than follow what your body really needs.

I don’t believe a person should identify with any dietary dogma because inevitably they end up disciplining themselves to stick with that way of thinking instead of looking within.

Don’t be any kind of way. Don’t be a vegan, don’t be a carnivore, an omnivore, a raw foodist or paleo diet advocate. Follow your intuition on a daily basis. Don’t get locked into any one way of thinking when it comes to human nutrition.

With that said I’m going to share with you some of the animal products I like and why I’ve been eating them lately.

If tomorrow I want to eat 100% raw vegan then I’ll do that. Following a diet path is okay but only if you’re willing to break that ideology in the moment if you feel like that’s what your body needs.

Here are some animal products I’ve been eating lately and maybe you should too.


Bee Products

I like to eat raw honey, propolis and bee pollen. Raw honey is amazing because it’s a whole food, it’s naturally sweet and is filled with enzymes. It’s the most enzyme rich food found in nature. It contains vitamins, minerals and so much more. I eat royal jelly for the same reasons.

I also like bee pollen. Bee pollen is filled with antioxidants which are healthy for fighting off sickness and colds. It also has protein, carbohydrates and b vitamins which are essential for energy and optimal health.

Propolis helps to eradicate free radicals in your blood stream and it’s very cleansing as well. It has anti inflammation properties and helps to fight infections and many people use it for its longevity capabilities.


Bone Broth

If you read the GAPS diet book you’ll quickly find out about all the healing properties of bone broths. Bone broth contains many fat soluble minerals, vitamins and compounds that help to detoxify the body and build the body. Bone broths are incredibly nourishing to your digestive tract. Many people are dealing with leaky gut, colitis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other digestive problems.

Have you ever had gas, bloating, constipation, hemorrhoids or even heartburn or GERDS (Gastroesophageal reflux disease)? Bone broths should be a part of your gut healing protocol. They’re great for your skin, hair and nails. Bone broth is also amazingly great for your joints and other issues.

If you want to improve your digestion, you should consume bone broth on a regular basis.


Organic Grass Fed (& Finished) High Quality Meat

I realize many people lose me on this one, especially vegans and vegetarians. If that’s you, feel free to skip to the next item. But meats contain fat soluble vitamins that cannot be found in other foods in the same way they are in meat. They are also a great source of Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, iron for building blood and more. Personally I believe raw meats are the way to go. Can you believe that some people also eat organ meats raw?

I know crazy right?

Raw organ meats are incredibly healthy for your endocrine system, your hormonal system and nervous system.


Dairy Products

Many people are advocates of raw dairy from organic grass fed animals. Personally I cannot drink dairy from cows. My body just can’t process the lactose or casein. That’s why I like to eat raw butter, colostrum, whey protein and ghee.

None of these products have lactose or casein in them to my knowledge and I find them to be very healing and beneficial for my own health. I don’t do lots of them but I do find my body really likes dairy in this form.


Elk Velvet (Deer Antler)

Elk Velvet or deer antler (as long as they’re coming from animals that are treated humanely like the product from Surthrival) can be really great at rebuilding your hormone systems. They contain growth factors that help your body to thrive and to flourish in these challenging times. Deer antler is great for boosting your immune system and rapidly rebuilding your hormone systems. As you know if you’re low in hormones you lack drive, motivation, sex drive and you typically have skin issues, an inability to put on muscle and you put on weight.

Eggs contain a rich amount of healthy proteins and fat soluble nutrients. The egg yolk is incredible for Vitamin D, B12 and other fat soluble minerals. The whites of the eggs are a great source of highly absorbable proteins (as long as you’re not sensitive to them).

I like to eat eggs raw in my smoothies. They give you instant energy and if you consume them by themselves on an empty stomach will fully digest according to Aajonus Vonderplanitz in under 27 minutes.

I haven’t got to the point yet where I can eat them Rocky Balboa style yet but maybe soon I will.
