Day 22 of the Feel Good Project = Happiness

Sometimes I get so used to giving things up on the journey back to health that I forget to ADD things back in.

Lately (especially in the past month) I have been cutting out more foods that I thought have been ‘ok’ for my specific situation in the past year or so, and have thrown a bunch of new foods into the mix, and I am actually starting to feel a TON better.

Who knew?

I had thought I had my diet down to a science there for a bit…for a few months it seemed, until it all changed once again, throwing new challenges my way in forms of digestion and inflammation flare ups.

This is what I think: following more of an Ayurvedic diet has made all the difference along with healing bone broth added in almost daily, as well as grazing throughout the day on small meals every couple of hours instead of three designated meal times (as I have done most all of my life).

Although Ayurveda is still totally new to me and I have so so much to learn, I have applied the basic principles to my life and I feel it is helping big time!

According to my body type (which is called Vata), eating WARMING foods is ideal, which turns out to be complete opposite to the past two or more years of my life, living off smoothies, cold water and green juices, salads and raw vegetables.

While obviously all of those foods are beneficial in some capacity, I have come to realize that I needed to mix things up, as I felt stagnant in my progress with health and I believe that I was repeating too much of the same food too often, as well as cold, dampening foods.

Ever since I started to really warm things up, my digestion and overall sense of wellness have seemed to have jumped started progress. In fact, it is INCREDIBLE to me that for the first time in years, I am able to eat what seem to be ‘wrong’ food combinations and have little to no side effects.

I have added in nuts this week, which I have not had in years (mostly out of fear) and although I won’t go overboard with them, I feel like it has helped get things moving again by introducing new foods back to my diet.

Mentally and emotionally I am absolutely thrilled as I have been so restricted for so long, and giving up some staple things like whey protein, raw chocolate products and cold smoothies has been such a big bummer-until recently!!!

I have not only added in some new foods but I have been reminded to add in FUN again.

Retreating for awhile like a hermit has been really healing for me, however as I gain back strength and health, I am emerging to find that I have been missing out on laughter and fun in my life to a large extent. It’s been recently that I have truly TRULY smiled and felt my soul shift.

Today was such a day. Although I worked a ten hour work day at salon, my day ended with my best friend coming in to get her hair done, followed by me taking her out afterward for a belated birthday dinner.

We were able to just catch up on a much deeper level because we were not in a hurry to get anywhere. The LAUGHTER and memories we shared tonight was healing for my body and soul. I feel lighter in her presence, and I remember not to take myself too seriously.

Today I was made aware in a powerful way of how important it is to add not only new food and new experiences back into my life, but more of the essence of life that remind me that I am ALIVE and not just surviving. This is a HUGE part of this process.

FEEL GOOD MOMENT OF THE DAY: As I dropped my pal Kristy at her car tonight, she asked me if she could pray for me! No one has actually asked me that in a long time. Who would turn down prayer? She grabbed my hand and asked God to guide and BLESS me on my journey toward health and also the changes coming my way leading into 2015. She prayed for clarity and peace, and I left feeling like the most blessed gal in the world. 🙂
